As a Louisville Therapist & Addiction Specialist, it seems to me that these days people have more difficulties to face and fewer resources to assist them in making sense of what is going on around them. It is apparent that depression, anxiety, and substance abuse are all on the rise, which in turn can effect one's career, family life, and relationships.
It seems that the constant demands of modern life often clouds the dreams and aspirations we once had. Often times, our personal goals are hindered by our own demons or the damage of situations surrounded by hurt and disappointment outside of our control. Perhaps you are one of the many "normal" people in this country today dealing with debt, divorce, substance abuse, relational and family struggles. There is help.
I believe that if you are here on this page, at this moment, there is a good chance you are seeking change. I look forward to providing you the therapy, counseling, and proven clinical treatment methods that can not only provide support to you and your loved ones, but can help you make adjustments to your life in order to create lasting change. Please take the time to look through the treatment options and services that I offer. Ashley Hall, LCSW CADAC-IV CCDP-D
This style of therapy focuses on changing lifelong patterns that have become dysfunctional. The focus on resolving issues from the past results in improved self-esteem and overall functioning.
Traditionally, the goal is to help the client change patterns of behavior that took years to develop. But when a person is functioning well in life and is in crisis or experiencing transient problems, brief therapy can be used to help the person understand what he or she has been through emotionally that brought about the symptoms.
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy focuses on the feelings we have about other people, especially our family, and the people we are close to. The approach is collaborative, structured and carefully organized. It often involves discussing past experiences and how these may have led to our present predicament. It also helps us to see how these affect our life now; the understanding gained allows the person to make choices about what happens in the future. This may involve quite brief therapy for specific difficulties and therapy can be relatively short, but when problems are complex and long standing, healing may mean attending regular sessions over many months.
EMDR is a specialized treatment approach scientifically proven to be highly effective in resolving symptoms related to trauma, anxiety, depression, and many other distressing symptoms. This treatment approach has shown to provide positive results in a relatively short time period. An in-depth explanation of the treatment will be provided during your appointment. More information is also available from the EMDR Institute at www.EMDR.com
Couples therapy differs from other forms of psychotherapy because the relationship is the focus of attention, instead of one individual diagnosed with a specific psychological problem. Couples therapy focuses on the problems existing in the relationship between two people. However, these relationship problems always involve individual symptoms and problems along with the relationship conflicts. For example, if you are constantly arguing with your spouse, you will probably also be chronically anxious, angry or depressed (or all three). Or, if you have difficulty controlling your temper, you will have more arguments with your partner.
The most common view of Couples Therapy is that is it a means of resolving problems and conflicts that couples have not been able to handle effectively on their own due to a build up of frustration and disappointment over time, or some other issue underlying the conflict. Other couples seek help due to a marital crisis, such as an affair or apparent loss of affection and caring, or a traumatic event such as an illness or loss in the family.
Couples Therapy can also be very effective for couples that are not in crisis, but seek to revitalize their relationship in any number of ways. Common goals are to revive romance, sexuality, improve communication, move to a deeper level of intimacy, make decisions about whether or not to have children, and to negotiate life transitions together.
Counseling involves both partners sitting down with a trained professional to discuss their thoughts and feelings. The aim is to help each of them gain a better understanding of themselves and each other, to decide if they need and want to make changes, and if so, to help them achieve their goals.
What Will the Therapist Do?
Therapists are trained and objective third parties who will listen to both partners as they express their thoughts and feelings and help them identify and clarify problem areas; they will not take sides. The therapist will help you and your partner identify the conflict issues within your relationship and will help you decide what changes are needed in the relationship and in the behavior of each partner.
